Old Land Rovers.

I have felt the need to share some old photographs that I have stored from endless hours of internet browsing!

So the Dormobile has been bought on eBay after a ferocious bidding war between the UK and Germany.

The winner was... Landy-Point 

This German company is renowned for its absolutely superb rebuilds and restorations. They own some pretty nice Land Rovers too, some of which are extremely rare.

Included would be 'Alan Wheelwrights' Pre-Production 1947 Series 1 80" No. 12

Other assets include vehicles from the famous Dunsfold Collection too.

I'm pleased it is going to have a new lease of life and will definitely be respected by its new owners.

Another happy ending for a sad Land Rover!

Dormobile ~ Updated.

The Dormobile has had a little clean and has been inspected further.

The roof and fabric/material is in very good condition. The chassis is very solid but definitely needs a new rear cross member as the existing one is slightly 'Emmental'.

It could be a daily driver with some general maintenance but ideally I think this old girl needs a lover who'll restore her back to her original spec. Hopefully the new owner will refit a 2.6 6cylinder petrol engine as what would have been an original feature. The chassis number on this is 35100069D which actually makes her an 'Export vehicle & #69' which confuses me why she is still in the same area as when bought from new?

Maybe it was a cancelled order at the dealership?

1967 Land Rover Series 2a Dormobile Station Wagon.

This morning I had a phone call off a chap about 'an old Land Rover' and he only lives about 2 miles 'as the crow flies'.

Immediately after a short description by the owner I said I would be over within the hour! I knew what is was straight away!

On arrival this vehicle looked so much better than he described over the phone.

This is a beautiful,1 owner from new Dormobile conversion.

It needs some general repairs to get going mechanically butwill need a good amount to make original again.

It started life as a 6cyl petrol but has been converted to a Perkins diesel somewhere in its life :(

However it was professionally converted and has the Perkins badge :) The old girl still retains her 'elephant hide' trim and has the 2/3 size seats intact. Lets hope the previous owner can find the camper internals...

I'll update on this gorgeous girl when she comes home to me on Saturday!

Parts have arrived!

After all the hic-ups they're here :)

Phew... What a day!

I had to move every single piece by hand into my storage unit, my friend Adam and I have been at it non-stop all day! I am actually really surprised we did it.

So tomorrow I'm going to photograph all the lights,gauges,bulkheads,panels,mirrors,switches and all the other items that I have been fortunate enough to obtain.

I'll post some more detailed photos soon as some of the parts are just fantastic to see in such great condition and as they would have been back in the late 1960's.

'The Parts Arrive'...

After much anticipation my parts from the Middle-East have arrived this morning!

Only 1 slight problem...Where's the bloody fork-lift truck???

The assignment has been packed and delivered on a truck that is too small and has no fork-lift for unloading.

They have been sent to a temporary storage facility and will be offloaded and reloaded onto a bigger truck that has fork-lift capabilities. I should expect them tomorrow.

So what you see in the photo is only half of the shipment, all packed in double-width boxes and loaded from the rear. Even if there was a fork-lift they wouldn't have been able to offload from the side anyway!

I feel a breakdown in communication has happened somewhere along the line!

Investigations...

After a morning of investigating a lead, I have possibly found 3 '2B Forward Control' Land Rovers.

The first is probably in the worst condition but is generally the most original. It looks like an Ex-GPO (General Post Office) Cherry-picker unit. Not many left that are intact!

Another one which seems to have been made into a van or possible camper?

and this last one looks to have been used for spares...

I am very keen to pursue these and await contact from the lead.

Series 3 Ex RAF Fire Tender

It's been a while and I haven't blogged in over a month!

I've been extremely busy with other day-to-day things.

Here's another 109 that has come in, it's a 1978 Ex RAF Fire Tender.

Slightly different now to when it left service but it's got some interesting history. 

After serving in the RAF as a 'Foam Tender' that would have been kitted out with a large alloy bowser/tank on the back, it left service and was bought by a private airfield and used there for several years until bought again. It was then made fitted with seats in the rear and owned by a pilot of all people!

It's in fantastic condition and has obviously been lovingly maintained. It still has the 'two-tone' siren/horns which I keep having a play with :)

I hope this goes to a good home as it's a real peach.
